RE.CO.RD. Educational game designed by the University of Ioannina for the children’s empowerment in reducing and recycling plastic waste
Τhe Laboratory of Knowledge and Intelligent Computing (KIC) of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of University of Ioannina, has designed an educational game for children aiming to raise awareness and motivate them in reducing and recycling plastic waste.
RE.CO.RD. educational game is freely provided by Google Play store and Apple Store and all you need is a smart phone or a tablet to download and play it. The application is in Greek Language and it can easily operate by young children that acquire elementary knowledge on digital applications or games. It is an interactive educational game that addresses children from about 7 to 16 years old and its major goal is to engage them in sustained actions such as recycling and prevention of plastic waste.
The game begins with the moving story of “Federica”, a sea turtle which is in danger, as being drown by a plastic bag floating on the sea. The story is followed be an interesting educational quiz on plastic waste and its sustainable use. Children learn and play at the same time by discovering new knowledge! Finally, a clean up activity takes place on a beach and guess what: the more plastic waste you collect, the higher you score!

The game is designed and created in the frame of the European Project RE.CO.RD – REcycling Strategies for the Coastal Sustainable Waste Management towards R&D Innovation. The Project is funded by INTERREG V-A, Cross-border Cooperation Programme Greece-Italy 2014-2020 and the specific activity is part of a broader effort to strengthen environmental awareness on plastic pollution, mainly on the coasts and beaches.
